Competition
Since Microsoft is involved in many different types of industry, Microsoft has much competition. In the software industry and gaming industry it has few competitors though. In the software market, Microsoft competes with Oracle and Symantec. Even though the products of these three companies might be different, they are the three major software products. Since there is competition but the products are popular there is not much advertising that needs to happen. For example, if Microsoft were to raise its price on Microsoft word, then the demand for word would not drop by much since Microsoft ward is a unique product that is used by many people and business. In the software market as a whole, there is some competition between Microsoft word and other companies that have developed similar programs. Unlike Microsoft, these smaller companies need to advertise in order to gain sales. In the gaming market, Microsoft has to compete with Sony and Nintendo. Out of these three Microsoft and Sony carry out the most advertising since their gaming systems are so similar. Since the two products are such close substitutes for each other, the change in price between the two could make one game system more demanded than the other. There is not just competition for adverting, but there is also competition by holding the best game titles.
